Ortis, let’s kick it off by going way back..What were the pair you always wanted growing up?
“The pair I can remember wanting the most as a schoolboy were the Nike Burt Bruin in black with a white swoosh.”
Ok, given a choice what pair would you wear every day for the rest of your life if you can only choose one? Choose wisely!
“probably my Adidas NMD R1s. They’re slick, super comfy and black, so go with everything.”
That’s a good choice! How about the pair you’d want but just can’t get/have
“The very recent Lego x Adidas ZX8000. I entered so many raffles and asked favours but they still eluded me.”
Favourite from a movie scene?
“Might have to be Forrest Gumps Nike Cortez. He just put those suckahs on and ran the shit out of them. Pretty much did the same with my pairs. Bought three in a row!
Love that! The Gumps are certified legends. OK, what’s your favourite pair you own right now?
“At the moment its a toss-up between my AKOG x Adidas Ultra Boost and my Air Max 95 Greedy 2.0”
Jordan fan? If so favourite ever pair?
“They never really suited me.”
What/who is your biggest influence on Sneakers?
“I hate to say it, but social media has kept me within touching distance of what’s at the forefront of sneaker culture. I also have friends who are part of the scene and I watch and listen closely to what they’re chatting about.”
Your favourite ever sneaker collab?
“Virgil’sOff White x Converse Chuck Taylor “OG THE TEN”. Had I a pair, I’d have rocked the shit out of them!
That’s a very strong choice! This probably leads us onto hype. What’s your opinion on sites such as StockX and Gen Z resellers?
“Hype and re-sale are the buzzwords of the current age and although I’ve missed out on some clothing, I’ve exploited this behaviour in other markets. I think the whole subculture could be regulated better and brands not feed into it soo much, but it’s here to stay so I’m gonna try working out how to live with it.”
Any sneaker Phobias or Faux Pax you feel strongly about?
“Not really. What doesn’t work now will be high fashion in a year’s time. If I feel it, I rock it. I don’t dress for other’s approval, but a compliment is always nice.”
