Motocaddy iron out the creases with a subtle but superb upgrade. The M3 Pro is a must-have

Founded in 2004, Motocaddy have been assisting golfers of all abilities and ages pioneering products in the electric trolley market.

Since then Motocaddy have recently sold their 500,000th electric trolley and we don’t see them stopping there, their iconic foldable designs leave them fan favourites in both the S-range (push trolleys) and the more recognisable M-range (Electric).

Motocaddy prides themselves on their R&D with the customer front of mind. When changes come, they come as a result of customer demand and this is exactly what the brings us to the M3 Pro

Design

We can’t even begin to talk about the M3 Pro without starting with its design. It’s absolutely brilliant. Unlike the older M3 Pro which had a 5-point folding system, The team at Motocaddy have brilliantly devised a solution cutting that down to only two making your trolley effortlessly easy to set-up and put away in minimal time. It’s bottom hinge also has an inbuilt stand for when you’re resting it up and storing it away.

In order to save even more space, The Motocaddy has removable innovative inverting wheels. When not in use you can simply turn these wheels inside on themselves saving around 10cm on the width of the trolley on each side, perfect for when you’re trying to load it into the boot of the car. If like this you’ve been using the trolley in the winter months, you can simply just take the wheels off and place them into a bag and out of the way ready to clean later.

All in the all, the new M3 Pro is said to be 11% smaller than all of the trolleys in its category and its made out of Aluminium making which means its also lighter at 10KG. Not bad considering the S1 push trolley is 6.8kg.

The handlebars are adjustable and also very comfortable to hold. Overall the M3 Pro felt so balanced and easy to use we even found ourselves pushing it when we didn’t need to.

The LCD screen is fully waterproof and its buttons and controls are very easy to navigate and use whilst holding onto the handlebars.

The trolley comes with removable elastic straps for both the top and bottom of your golf bag but we would highly recommend using a newer Motocaddy golf bags. Not only are they fantastic value for money as they both marry up together using its trademarked EASILOCK system.  Two pins in the bottom of the bag lock the bag into place via some entry points meaning your bag will never tip over and remains locked into the place the whole round. To remove the bag at the end of your round simply push it forward and out it pops. So simple.

Performance

The M3 Pro, along with other trolleys in its electric range all come with a 28v battery. Coupled with a 230w motor this trolley is both whisper-quiet but gives you more than enough power than you probably even need. The battery isn’t light but it is lighter than before. make no mistake about it though, it’s a beast. The M3 Pro comes with a 9-speed setting but if you’re casually walking we recommended you don’t go any further than 5 or 6. This thing might will run away from you.

We found ourselves freewheeling our trolley a fair few times. After our first 18 holes in 3.5 hours, we found our battery hadn’t even used 70% of its charge after it mostly used in both the 3rd and 4th speed setting. Not bad at all.

The battery itself takes around 3-5 hours to charge and if you’re playing 36 holes you can even opt for a bigger ‘extended’ battery.

The LCD Screen and Features

M3 PRO LCD Screen

The LCD on Electric Motocaddy trolleys acts as the heartbeat of the device. From here you can control everything you need to for your round. The panel itself is very easy to see even in the bright sunshine and the panel itself is waterproof.

The large number indicates your speed settings and takes up the bulk of the display. These is very easy to control using the 360-degree circular i-drive type button in the middle. Simply push down to start, push again stop and twist to speed up and slow down.

The M3 Pro also features an adjustable distance control setting. Up to 60 yards but we doubt you’d ever use that. If you push your main button down you can select the yardage in which you want your trolley to travel before it comes to an automatic stop. We found this very useful when approaching greens to get our trolley out of the way and somewhat en-route to the next hole.

The handy round timer is great along with the clock and the distance measurement feature measures your last drive, total round and total distance of your trolleys life. Very handy if you ever wanted to sell on and upgrade later. We used our trolley in unison with a GPS watch and found the driving measurement to be just as accurate.

The GPS cradle has gone on the newer model, so any non-watch GPS you use will now have to be added onto the handle via the universal cradle and a separate phone/GPS holder. Alternatively, you can upgrade to the M5 Connect which has a built-in GPS.

The USB charging ports sits nicely underneath the handle and hidden away. It’s not a fast charger but it does pump out enough juice to keep your phone, GPS and even Motocaddy Hot Mitts filled with energy.

Conclusion

The premium and compact feel and design mixed with the plethora of features it carries, make the M3 Pro is a joy to use. Motocaddy has done a tremendous job in giving the trolley the uplift and redesign and whilst they may be tweaks they all make a big difference.

Motocaddy’s belief in their product and customer-centric approach are further supported by the warranty they offer on their products which is currently 24 months.

The M3 Pro is one of those products you just couldn’t live without after you’ve used it for the first time. The only thing stopping this trolley from being perfect is currently its weight but that’s just us being picky and we have no doubt further iterations will only get smaller and lighter.

Full CRISP. approval. Well done Motocaddy.

*UPDATE – A New 2020 version of the M3 PRO will also be out very soon.
