Motocaddy’s first stab at rangefinders is a joy to use.

When you see the brand Motocaddy, a laser rangefinder is probably not the first product that comes to your head. Whether you’re a beginner or an avid golfer you’re probably accustomed to seeing a number of their electric golf Trolley darting around the fairways.

We’ve used an M3 Pro electric trolley for some time now and still love it (review can be found here) so we were very intrigued to see if Motocaddy could pull off its debut into a competitive laser rangefinder market.

The big question for us was should Motocaddy stick to what they know or have they done enough to warrant a legitimate move into a brand extension?

Design

On first impressions, the Pro 3000 looks like many other laser rangefinders on the market but it’s only when you start using it you realise just how ergonomically designed and light the device is.
Weighing in at 129g it feels perfectly balanced and easy to hold in most peoples hands so much so it’s actually very easy to use with one hand.

On the top, there is a simple 2 button layout one of which allows you to toggle through the different Modes and the other acts as your power button and also your sight lock.

On the viewfinder itself, there is a small focussing ring to really allow you to get the image feedback back possible from its massive 7x magnification scope.

One of the best design aspects of this whole device doesn’t actually come from the rangefinder itself but the carry case.

The rugged hard case not only features an elastic clip and a carabiner clip but Motocaddy has made the Pro 3000 case fit so that it can be attached to Motocaddy trolleys using their universal accessory station.
This small went a really long way making the device extremely accessible at all times rather than having to fiddle with it hanging from the side of your bag.

Looks-wise its blackout design and silver accents matched with durable materials really do give the pro3000 a premium look about it and its rubberised grips are not just very easy to hold, the device itself is IPX5 rated meaning you can use it in all weather conditions and it won’t slip.

Features and Functionality

Motocaddy has managed to deliver on the performance of the rangefinder and its functionality made it an absolute joy to use.

Cycling through the modes you’re able to set it to 4 modes of your liking. Pin mode, scan mode and then both of these modes both with a slope on and slope off.

Everything is made very clear on the display and the feedback and capture of yardage was extremely quick and on pin seeking mode a short haptic feedback lets you know when you’re locked on.

In terms of distances, the 7X magnification is truly a winner giving you the ability to hit a pin 450 yards away and scan anything else up to 1300 yards away which is way more than you’d actually need to to start planning your course management.

We also found the slope to be very accurate too and of course, you can turn this off to make it competition legal.

Verdict

In short, the Motocaddy Pro 3000 was an absolute joy to use. Its simplicity and design tick all of the boxes you need in a rangefinder and if you’re already a Motocaddy trolley user you also have the added benefit of being able to store this in a very functional way.

The little intricate details like this are what has won us over and it’s fair to say it’s been an amazing addition to course strategy and we found it extremely useful and helpful.

There’s not much we’d add to this product given its size and portability and the 24-month Motocaddy warranty is also another added benefit.
